The duty and responsibility of every citizen is to stand ready to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic. 

The Right To Exist

You may be wondering what gives the South Carolina State Militia the right to exist. The constitution of the State of South Carolina in Article 13 does this. Section 1 of Article 13 reads as follows:

SECTION 1.
Militia.
The militia of this State shall consist of all able-bodied male citizens of the State between the ages of eighteen and forty-five years, except such persons as are now or may be exempted by the laws of the United States or this State, or who from religious scruples may be adverse to bearing arms, and shall be organized, officered, armed, equipped and disciplined as the General Assembly may by law direct. What We Defend

The South Carolina State Militia believes that the Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land. We believe that it is our duty to uphold and defend our great land and constitution from all who may attempt to bring harm to it.
